The University ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ warmly congratulates its honorary doctor, Professor Kenso Soai, who has been awarded the most prestigious recognition in Japanese science, the Japan Academy Prize, in 2025.

Professor Soai has held the title of Doctor Honoris Causa at the University ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ since 2015. The reaction named after him—the Soai reaction—serves as a key model in research into the molecular origins of life, and his work is an exemplary blend of theoretical depth and scientific innovation. His most recent award is a worthy continuation of his earlier recognitions, such as the Ryoji Noyori Prize (2023), the Chirality Medal (2005), and the Order of the Purple Ribbon awarded by the Emperor of Japan (2012).

The emeritus professor of Tokyo University of Science received this honor for his discovery of asymmetric autocatalysis and for studying the origin of homochirality research findings that have had a profound impact on international scientific discourse in organic chemistry and chemical evolution.

The Japan Academy Prize has been awarded annually since 1911 by the Japan Academy to the most outstanding representatives of scientific excellence. The award is presented in the presence of the Japanese Imperial Family, highlighting the high esteem in which science is held in Japanese society.

Professor Kenso Soai’s scientific achievements and his ongoing relationship with the University ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ are of special significance among our institution’s international connections. We extend our heartfelt congratulations on his latest recognition and wish him continued success and good health in his work.

The University ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ congratulates him wholeheartedly!
