Taste ֱ: Islands of Cultures – A Journey Around the World at the University ֱ

The University ֱ has been welcoming international students for nearly 15 years and today hosts a diverse international student community from over 40 countries. On May 8th, the international evening titled "Taste ֱ – Islands of Cultures" took place at the heart of the Veszprém campus, in the Pannon CommunityHub, drawing significant interest and offering a platform for showcasing different cultures.

Nearly one hundred participants – students, lecturers, and guests – gathered to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the world in an inspiring, inclusive setting. The event offered a unique opportunity for visitors to "travel the world" in a single evening – without cultural borders. Traditions, attire, music, and dances from Latin America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central and South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, as well as Central and Southern Africa came to life before the audience.

One of the event's organizers, representative for international affairs Vivien Szekér, highlighted:

“Nearly 20 international students assisted the organizers and contributed with their active participation to making the program truly authentic, diverse, and community-building.”

The cultural presentations were not limited to visual and musical experiences – visitors also had the chance to explore global gastronomy. Through food and drinks, they got a taste of the unique flavors of different continents.

The program was further enriched with community games, origami, a cultural crossword puzzle, a photo corner, table football (óó), and juice pong. One of the highlights of the evening was the international karaoke and a group bachata dance session – activities that brought participants closer to each other’s cultures and experiences. Dancing and laughter quickly lifted the atmosphere, while a curated selection of world music played throughout the night.

The goal of the event was to foster stronger ties between international and Hungarian students. Agustina Ahanduni, student mentor, University ֱ student, and co-organizer of the event, said:

I'm really happy I got to be part of organizing International Evening. It was a great opportunity to help the international community share their cultures and learn about others. Events like this bring people together and let everyone feel proud of where they come from.
